Andrew (Andy) Peken is a Partner at HBA and head of the M&A practice. Andy’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other business combinations, venture capital and private equity financings, and restructuring transactions. Andy also advises clients on an outside general counsel basis in connection with a wide range of corporate advisory and general commercial matters.
Prior to joining HBA, Andy worked in the New York office of Weil Gotshal & Manges for nearly a decade, specializing in financial services M&A. Andy started his legal career in the Sydney office of Allen Allen & Hemsley (now Allens Linklaters), working on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters (including film financing and production matters). Notable deals at Allens include the financing and production of The Matrix (representing Warner Bros.), the financing and production of The Thin Red Line (representing 20th Century Fox), and the financing and production of Babe 2: Pig in the City (representing Universal Pictures). At Weil, Andy represented GE and GE Capital in a range of M&A transactions (including the acquisition of Deutsche Financial Services, the divestitures of GE Modular Space, WMC Mortgage Corp. and FGIC, and the Genworth IPO).
At HBA, Andy’s matters include representing Broadcast Australia in its acquisitions of Transit Wireless and inMOTION, representing Rag & Bone in connection with an equity investment by Irving Place Capital, representing Wellpartner in its acquisition by CVS, representing The Arena Group in a variety of M&A and other matters (including negotiating an exclusive license to publish Sports Illustrated), representing Bread Labs in its acquisition by Yahoo!, representing Fullstack Academy in its acquisition by Bridgepoint Education, representing Podsights in its acquisition by Spotify, representing RSE Ventures in a variety of M&A matters, representing Vydia in its acquisition by LJ Music, representing ChartIQ in its acquisition by S&P Global and spin-off of Finsemble, and representing Precision Global Consulting in its acquisition by WorkWell.
Andy’s personal interests include watching sports and coaching his daughter’s softball team.
